President launches President's Challenge 2013 with a difference
President Tony Tan Keng Yam launched the President's Challenge 2013 at the Keppel FELS yard on 22 March, where he shared plans to build on the momentum of two new initiatives he started in 2012 - the President's Challenge Volunteer Drive and the President's Challenge Social Enterprise Award.
Fundraising continues to be at the heart of President's Challenge. However, the campaign has gone beyond the giving of money to the giving of time, skills and talent for the less fortunate. The President's Challenge Volunteer Drive is an event where individuals, schools and organisations are encouraged to participate in a host of programmes and volunteer activities. The President's Challenge Volunteer Drive aims to help people to understand the critical needs facing the less fortunate in Singapore. At the same time, they can experience the satisfaction of volunteerism.
The prestigious President's Challenge Social Enterprise Award recognises outstanding social enterprises, be it existing social enterprises, start-ups, or social enterprises managed by youth, for their contributions made to the social service sector.

The President's Challenge Steering Committee oversees the President's Challenge, while various agencies organise its numerous events. The President's Challenge Steering Committee is chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) and the Principal Private Secretary to the President. The Steering Committee comprises representatives from corporate, public and people sectors.
Every year, the President's Office selects the list of beneficiaries from social service organisations that are in need of funds or are unable to raise funds on their own.
Fifty-five charities have been selected to benefit from the funds that will be raised for the President's Challenge this year. Click here for the list of PC2013 beneficiaries.
