President’s Challenge 2009 raised $10 million

22 October, 2009 - President’s Challenge 2009   has successfully raised $10 million as a result of the generosity of Singaporeans and supporters.  This year, President’s Challenge celebrates 10 years of giving by the people and corporations to help the less privileged in Singapore.   

2.     Despite a challenging year, President Challenge 2009 continued to enjoy the strong support of individual supporters and corporate partners.  The contribution came from direct donations as well as from over 35 fundraising events organised by various partners and corporate sponsors.  

3.    President Nathan said, “I am gratified to note that the President’s Challenge has raised $80 million over the past 10 years for some 450 beneficiaries. President’s Challenge would not have achieved such success over the past 10 years if not for the steadfast support of our committed partners and sponsors.”

4.    As with past years, 250,000 donors, participants and volunteers participated in several community events like the “Be Yourself Day”, “Bridging Hearts, Connecting Smiles”, “Run Singapore” and “President Star Charity”.  This spirit of volunteerism was instrumental in making this year’s Challenge a success.

Long-standing Partnership

5.    President’s Challenge has a pool of regular supporters and participating organisations, such as Lee Foundation, Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple, ST Engineering, Continental Steel and Mr Stephen Riady among others.

6.    It has also enjoyed strong partnerships with key organisations such as the Singapore Totalisator Board, Singapore Pools, People’s Association, MediaCorp and Singapore Press Holdings. The list of sponsors and donors for 2009 is given in Annex A.

7.     President’s Challenge 2009 funds will benefit 37 beneficiaries this year (See Annex B).  The final list of the President’s Challenge beneficiaries would be available on the website (www.pc.org.sg) by early 2010.
