PRESIDENT’S CHALLENGE 2009 – CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF GIVING

The President’s Challenge 2009 is pleased to receive a donation of S$50,000 from the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI). This year, Singapore Pools and Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS), among others, were the first to pledge contributions towards President’s Challenge 2009.

2    Amid the current economic downturn, there will be more people who will need a helping hand to see them through these difficult times. 2009 will be a significant year as it will also mark the 10th Anniversary of the President’s Challenge.  A series of diverse events and activities will be organised through out the year to raise awareness of the beneficiaries and provide more opportunities for the public to give their time and resources to various causes.

3    Mr Vijay IYENGAR, Chairman of SICCI said, “The Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI) is proud to be associated with the President's Challenge initiative and make this small contribution. These are challenging times for the business community in Singapore. Nevertheless, SICCI hopes that companies that are doing fine will remember the needy and continue to lend their support for such causes.”

4    Initiated by President S R Nathan in 2000, President's Challenge is an annual charitable drive comprising a series of community-based activities to rally the public towards helping those in need of assistance. Over the last nine years, the committee has raised about $75 million for over 400 voluntary welfare organisations.

5    Mr NIAM Chiang Meng, Chairman of the President’s Challenge 2009 Steering Committee said, “We would like to thank SICCI and all donors, sponsors, partner organisers, volunteers and participants for their support of President’s Challenge and its activities over the years. We hope that individuals and corporations will continue to step forward and reach out to the less fortunate and disadvantaged amongst us.”
