President's Challenge Early Beginnings

President's Challenge 2000 was held from 2 Sep 2000 to 9 Sep 2000. It kicked off with an exhibition on the history and contributions of the social service sector in Singapore, organised by the National Council of Social Service and the National Heritage Board.
Highlights of community-based activities included TNP Project Y (Young, Yield, You), the President's Challenge Charity Walk cum Inter-CDC Telematch organised by the Home Team, the People's Association, the Community Development Councils (CDCs) and the Singapore Sports Council, Forum on Corporate Community Involvement in the New Economy by the National Council of Social Service, and an entertainment charity show by TCS. In addition to these events, there were also volunteering activities, open houses at Voluntary Welfare Organisations and other fringe activities. About $3m were raised for 33 beneficiaries.
